Assessment in mathematics education
Although classroom teachers have long used various forms of assessment to monitor their students’ mathematical learning and inform their future instruction increasingly external assessments are being used by policy makers throughout the world to gauge the mathematical knowledge of a country’s students and sometimes to compare that knowledge to the knowledge of students in other countries. As a result, external assessments often influence the instructional practices of classroom teachers. The importance given to assessment by many stakeholders makes assessment a topic of interest to educators at many levels.
